At the moment SSDs can’t rival spinning disks for storage in any affordable sense, and now Seagate has just announced a new 4-terabyte Desktop FreeAgent GoFlex Desk, It’s the world’s first 4TB HDD, and ships with USB3 connectivity.
For now it’s only available as an external drive. That’s mainly because most of the current crop of PCs uses BIOS-type boot software, which unlike newer EFI systems has a problem wih hard drives larger than 2TB. The new 4TB drive is available from the Seagate online store. And it’s quite inexpensively priced at $249, including an enclosure to house the drive.
