New Lenovo ThinkPad Edge S430, first to go Thunderbolt

Up until now, Apple’s Mac systems were the only ones to feature Intel’s ultra-fast Thunderbolt interface, but it seems that Lenovo has some different plans in this matter, since the company’s new ThinkPad Edge S430 will actually be the first notebook PC to incorporate this impressive innovation.

Announced as a part of Lenovo pre-CES 2012 lineup, the new ThinkPad Edge S430 follows the IBM-set business-elegant design line of all notebooks in this series, but also features a couple of interesting metallic accents, while also being just one-inch thick.

The new 14-inch portable machine packs a host of features most business users will certainly enjoy, such as a choice of Core processors from Intel, a suitable amount of DDR3 RAM memory, the possibility to add up to 1TB HDDs, and a choice of Intel integrated or NVIDIA Optimus graphics.

Plus, for multimedia-loving execs, the notebook will come equipped with Dolby Home Theatre v4 audio, an optical unit, while connectivity options include, beside the aforementioned Thunderbolt tech, USB 3.0 as well.

Last, but certainly not least, we’ll have to mention that pricing for the Thunderbolt-packing ThinkPad Edge S430 will start at around 750 US dollars, the new laptop being set to arrive in stores at some point in June, in certain select markets.

Lenovo IdeaPad U300s Features Specifications Price Review

We have been promised 30 new ultrabooks this winter and Lenovo is not going to sit on a stand by. We have been waiting for thinner and faster ultrabook and hoping to start seeing this new wave of cool, light and portable notebooks for little less money. Acer Chairman J.T. Wang recently said he would like to see ultrabooks for under $700. Perhaps it is a bit ambitious in 2011, but we’ll get there hopefully in the coming year. Let us now take a look at a very solid contender in the same category of ultrabooks.

The Lenovo IdeaPad U300s features the most appealing design of any ultraportable we’ve seen – flat and angular with a chic muted orange trim. A basic silver model is also on offer. The flagship IdeaPad U300s brandishes a Core i7 CPU and a 13.3-inch screen, with a 256GB SSD. All in a shell which measures 0.6 inches at its thickest point.

The base configuration of IdeaPad U300s comes with an i5 processor and a smaller 128GB SSD, matching the MacBook Air basic spec, and costing $100 less at $1195. The review model on the other hand is well-specced to beat off the competition and costs $1595, priced almost identically to a comparable MacBook Air ($1599). The Lenovo IdeaPad U300 features a sandblasted aluminum unibody with top and bottom overhang to give it its sharp, angular appearance. It weighs just 2.9 pounds. The orange model offers a matte black interior with its keyboard slightly sunken, which helps Lenovo provide better key travel than otherwise possible on such a shallow chassis.

The 13.3-inch display with 1366 x 768 pixel resolution is typical of the 13.3-inch ultrabook format, and the display is first-rate; bright, sharp and with good contrast. The Lenovo IdeaPad U300 offers a good selection of ports, besting the MacBook Air with a USB-3 port and HDMI, both lacking on Apple category leader. There’s also a USB-2 port. Yet VGA socket and SDcard slot are both missing, as is a separate mic input. And although WiFi-n and Bluetooth are provided, there’s no Ethernet cable socket. Of course, USB external devices can remedy these shortfalls, but for everyday use that can be far from ideal. Intel Wireless Display technology allows you to stream video output to a separately-sold receiver box, which you can connect to a TV or monitor, a useful tool for giving presentations or watching videos. Lenovo have opted for an Apple style unified glass touchpad with integrated mouse buttons rather than the traditional touchpad and separate mouse buttons seen on the Toshiba Z835 ultrabook.

There’s Computrace LoJack for added security, albeit a limited trial subscription, should your pricey ultrabook end up in the wrong hands. The heart of the IdeaPad U300s is its Intel Core i7-2677M processor backed by 4GB RAM and in benchmarks the U300s outperformed both the Acer Aspire S3 and Samsung Series 9, although not matching the Core i5 MacBook Air.

Battery life is a crucial consideration for an ultraportable. Unsurprisingly, the IdeaPad U300s can’t equal the olympian endurance of the MacBook Air, but it nevertheless beats the Acer Aspire S3 into submission, delivering a very decent 5 hrs 14 minutes of video-looping. The Air gives a further hour and a half, proving that unless you specifically want a Windows machine, or prefer the looks of the Lenovo IdeaPad U300s, the MacBook looks the better deal. Just don’t forget that most people will very rarely tax the internal hardware of an i7 ultrabook, and anyone needing to edit video or perform other ultra-demanding tasks might want to look at a less slimmed-down piece of kit, one containing a dedicated graphics card at least. The main selling point of an ultraportable is capable computing in a tiny frame, and the Lenovo IdeaPad U300s fits the bill admirably.

New Lenovo ThinkPad X130e Notebook Ideal for Students

Lenovo has announced a latest laptop designed specifically tailored and used for students for academic tool - the Lenovo ThinkPad X130e. Featuring school-proof reinforced, yet lightweight design, in order to maintain its physical integrity for as long possible for the new 11.6-incher from Lenovo. Including rubber bumpers to absorb impacts to the side of the laptop, 33 percent stronger corner ( no word on what the 33 percent stronger than), robust hinges rated for up to 30,000 cycles, reinforced and recessed ports, as well as a bezel with 1.2mm-thick plastic to protect the screen. Comes with multimedia- and web content-capable hardware and battery that should last throughout the entire school day, or even a bit longer.

Traditionally, the ThinkPad series targets mostly busy businessmen, but that’s not really the case with the new product (although the company might be working on building early brand recognition, who knows?), since the latest ThinkPad, despite maintaining the overall design lines of the family, targets a completely different segment, namely the classroom.

The extra fortification is revealed when you glance at the 11.6-incher's weight, but 3.9lbs is still very manageable. We haven't seen a full spec sheet, but the system will be offered in Intel and AMD configurations. The X130e runs Windows 7 OS and is powered by Intel Core i3-2367M ULV, along with the AMD Fusion E-300, or AMD Fusion E-450 CPUs (each equipped with a GPU), as well as 2GB of RAM (upgradeable up to 8GB). Students can present their homework on a larger display connecting it to the X130e via HDMI, or VGA ports. Other connectivity options include Ethernet port, audio and microphone ports, two USB ports, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. File storage is provided by a choice of 320GB and 500GB HDDs, or 128GB SSD. The laptop also features the red pointing stick that serves as a navigation solution, 4-in-1 media card reader and a low-light webcam, as well as a six-cell battery that provides up to 8.5 hours of runtime -- or an entire school day. 

Price-wise, the new classroom-oriented notebook from Lenovo is actually fairly affordable, the 11.6-inch ThinkPad X130e selling for around US$470 starting on December 20′th.

Lenovo memasuki pasar ultrabook dengan menghadirkan IdeaPad U300s. Tak ingin disebut latah meniru MacBook Air, Lenovo memilih untuk tidak beradu tipis tetapi lebih menonjolkan pada aspek desain dan performa.

"Kami memiliki segmen tersendiri yaitu menyasar segmen premium yang lebih menekankan ultra mobility. Tapi kami juga menekankan desain eksklusif dan performa yang lebih mumpuni," ungkap Product and Business Development Manager Lenovo Indonesia Cung Cien di Jakarta, Rabu (30/11/2011).

Jika Macbook Air terkenal karena ketipisannya, Lenovo malah membuat dengan lebih tebal yaitu 14,9 mm, nyaris di bawah standar Ultrabook dari Intel di level 15 mm. Meski demikian, ultrabook ini lebih tipis dibanding Toshiba Portege Z830 di level 15,99 mm, namun masih kalah dibanding Acer Aspire S3 dengan 13 mm dan Asus Zen Book yang hanya 9 mm.

Beratnya hanya 1,32 kg, lebih berat bila dibanding Asus Zenbook 1,29 kg dan Toshiba Portege Z830 yang sudah 1,12 kg.

Yang membedakan adalah Ultrabook ini dilengkapi dengan fitur anti maling dengan adanyaantitheft protection pada BIOS-nya. Sehingga laptop bisa dilacak saat hilang atau dicuri, bisa terlacak saat mulai terkoneksi dengan Internet.

Selain itu, agar laptop tidak panas, IdeaPad ini sudah dilengkapi double fan dengan lubang ventilasi di sisi kiri laptop. Selain itu, terdapat lubang ventilasi kecil di antara keyboard dan layar. Lebih canggih lagi, di setiap celah keyboard juga ada lubang ventilasi untuk mengeluarkan panas. Sehingga saat laptop dipangku tidak akan terasa panas.

Keyboard dan TouchPad
Jajaran keyboard mengadopsi chicklet-style sehingga terkesan nyaman bila dipakai mengetik. Sayangnya, tombol Shift dan Backspace dibuat dengan ukuran dan letak berbeda, sehingga akan menyulitkan bagi yang terbiasa dengan keyboard standar.

Sedangkan touchpad-nya yang berukuran 4,1 x 2,8 inci menggunakan teknologi Synaptic Clickpad. Pada piranti ini pengguna dapat melakukan pinch to zoom dengan cepat dan akurat. Lenovo juga menambahkan beberapa gerakan khusus, dengan menggerakan empat jari ke kanan dapat menampilkan Notepad, empat jari ke kiri menampilkan galeri gambar yang dapat juga untuk mengubah Wallpaper, dan empat jari ke atas memungkinkan pengguna untuk berpindah dari satu aplikasi ke aplikasi yang lain dengan cepat.

Tidak seperti seri IdeaPad lainnya, Lenovo membenamkan saluran udara di sisi kiri keyboard. Urusan konektivitas, sisi kanan terdapat port HDMI, headphone jack, konektor charging dan port USB 3.0, port USB 2.0 ada di sebelah kiri. Sayang tidak ada slot untuk membaca kartu memori, port VGA dan LAN.

Boot
Waktu booting yang dibutuhkan sekitar 4 detik, lebih lama bila dibanding ultrabook dari Toshiba, Acer dan Asus yang rata-rata cuma perlu 2 detik. Untuk boot Windows 7 Home Premium membutuhkan waktu 15 detik, lebih bagus dibanding Asus UX31 yang butuh 29 detik dan Samsung seri 9 dengan 25 detik.

The Chinese PC manufacturer Lenovo is launching three new tablets. Unmitigated, the release of three tablets at once to invade the global marketplace.

Prepared to face market competition is increasingly competitive tablet, Lenovo tablet comes in a variety of options. These tablets are there that use the operating system (OS) Windows 7 or Android with a price tag of more or less similar to the iPad.

Thus, Lenovo joined with other companies such as Samsung Electronics and the BlackBerry maker, Research In Motion, in offering tablets to differentiate their product lines and seek new sources of profit.

Excerpted from the Wall Street Journal on Thursday (21/07/2011), in March last Lenovo began selling the Android-based tablet in China. Lenovo intends to sell more mobile devices, including smartphones.

Third Lenovo tablet has a 10.1-inch touch screen size. However, each tablet intended for different segments. Tablets IdeaPad K1 targeting consumer segments, the ThinkPad Tablets intended for businesses, while the IdeaPad P1 intended for home users and offices.
